The Company
Our Client owns and manages a diverse fleet of offshore support vessels. The majority of these vessels are Supply Vessels operating in the North Sea, but the Company also has vessels operating in West Africa, India, the Mediterranean Sea, Brazil, Singapore and the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to Supply vessels the Company owns and operates Anchor Handling vessels and DP/ROV Multi-role vessels.
The Company headquarters are in the USA and it has offices in the UK, Norway, Singapore and Brazil. The Company operates in excess of 90 vessels worldwide and the UK operation is responsible for 25 of these. The headquarters of the UK operation are in Aberdeen.
Person Specification
The Role
The position of Operations Superintendent is an important one within the organization and the incumbent will be responsible for providing the day-to-day Operational support necessary to support a diverse fleet of vessels. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all operational requirements and deadlines are met. The position reports to the Fleet Manager as part of a dynamic Operations Department.
It is imperative for the success of the role that the incumbent has a pro-active approach to the job and works largely under his/her own initiative. The successful candidate must be capable of anticipating, planning, managing and successfully resolving issues. The operational nature of the business means that work priorities can quickly change and there are often tight deadlines to work to. Therefore, it is essential that the post holder can work effectively under pressure, can deal with fluctuating work demands and is flexible in his/her work attitude.
The remit of the Operations Superintendent extends to but is not limited to:
1. Liaising with vessels on a regular basis to ensure their activities are being co-ordinated effectively and provide advice and guidance to Master and Engineers onboard.
2. Initiate and conduct investigations into operational difficulties, proposing and implementing cost effective solutions.
3. During vessel visits, carry out inspections of standards, supervise repairs and advise Contractors and ships’ staff during maintenance. Ensure vessels’ operational status is maintained and it meets the standards required by statutory bodies and classification societies at all times.
4. Supervise dry-docking of vessels ensuring the process is co-ordinated effectively by involving vessel staff, managers, yards and Company departments advising all of status and progress. Prepare dry-docking specifications, liaise with the Company dry dock manager to elicit and evaluate quotations and recommend shipyards. Ensure they are carried out correctly and comply with budgets and time limits and also to Statutory, Class and Company satisfaction. On completion, prepare archive reports.
5. Carry out vessel inspections and audits of prospective additional tonnage.
6. Collate information and costs and prepare project specifications for vessel conversion to Charterer’s requirements.
7. Provide reports and budgets and monitor costs, repairs, equipment and conditions in order to advise vessel owners enabling them to manage their vessels effectively. Attend meetings with managers as required.
8. Annual audit of vessels in accordance with IMS requirements.
9. All activities carried out in accordance with Company IMS system.
10. Ensuring that all Technical documentation received from the vessels is processed within the required timescales.
11. Achieve on-time updates of all databases associate to the effective monitoring of a complex and varied fleet of ships and systems.
12. Update planned maintenance system as directed.
13. Ensure that the monthly departmental K.P.I’s are met.
14. Identify, propose and support improvements to the Operational function including any cost saving opportunities.
15. Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested.
Experience & Qualifications
• Should possess a Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency and/or relevant experience
• Good planning and scheduling skills are necessary
• Excellent IT and communication skills (written and oral)
